Hi,
Mary Coppin here. Many thanks for the responses about what I should expect
from Kerrville. Was just informed though that I mistyped my own e-mail address
in the letter. So now you all know the truth, I am a goof. I'm really looking
forward to meeting as many of you wonderful people as I can. I just can't
wait.
Any tips as to brands of repellents etc. and do I have to worry about chiggers
if I'm not camping? Also, I'm worried about shoes. I've got sandals but they
buckle with straps, is that a bad idea with the chiggers?
Thanks again,

Since we've been talking about this wonderful song, and the many wonderful
versions, I think one of the most beautiful versions I ever heard is one
that has never been released. In 1982, I was in Chicago for a visit, and I
had the opportunity to hear Michael Smith live at The Earl of Old Town.
Before the show, I asked him if he would mind if I recorded the show on my
cheap tape recorder. He said it would be fine. I didn't get all the songs
on tape, but one I did get was "The Water is Wide" as only Michael can do
it, with his own special feeling and phrasings, a gem. I must have listened
to that tape hundreds of times in the 16 years since, and it still is playable!
An interesting little side tidbit--at the beginning of the tape, I also
recorded one song by the opening act, a songwriter by the name of Dan Bern!

[Alan sez: Isn't that always the way? I've heard Susan Werner do some
killer covers, especially of standards like "Where Do You Start" and
"Everytime We Say Goodbye", but she never seems to play them twice...]

My name is Rick Teverbaugh and I have a weekly radio show called Singers
& Songs. I want to do an Old West theme show and I am looking for song
suggestions. Anyone who could help would have my eternal thanks.
[Alan sez: Please reply directly to Rick and he can summarize to the list.]

I'm glad to see Darryl Purpose, winner of the Rose Garden Coffeehouse
competition, get some richly deserved recognition. He recently played the Fast
Folk Cafe in NYC. He's like a smooth, warm shot of brandy going down. We love
him.
