Kimmie Rhodes to Kick Off Hill Country House Concerts
If you judge your singer songwriters by the company they keep then you are
probably already a Kimmie Rhodes fan. Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Townes
van Zandt, Jesse Taylor and Joe Ely all added their considerable talents to
Kimmie's 1996 CD release, West Texas Heaven. If you judge your singer
songwriters on merit then you probably are also already a Kimmie Rhodes fan.
Kimmie's most recent CD release is a compilation of 12 original songs from
her first three albums called Jackalopes, Moons & Angels. The tracks include
duets with Joe Ely, Wes McGhee, and Bobby Earl Smith. The songs are among
Kimmie's best early work and include original versions of songs that were
recorded later by such luminaries as Willie Nelson and Wynonna Judd. The
list of pickers reads like a who's-who of Texas musicians, featuring Johnny
Gimble, Floyd Domino, Jack Clement, Marcia Ball, Butch Hancock, Jesse Taylor
and many more.
Willie calls Kimmie ìan undiscovered superstarî and has featured her at many
of his Farm Aid and Fourth of July concerts. Amazingly, Kimmie has gone
ìundiscoveredî since her arrival in Austin in 1979 though she is currently
working on her fifth CD.
USA Today says "Make room for Kimmie Rhodes...listening to these songs is
like a sweet unhurried ramble through bluebonnets. While Gavin said "...the
voice of an angel and a remarkable songwriting prowess."
Joe Nick Patoski' wrote, ìIf West Texas had a voice I think it would sound
like Kimmie Rhodes. Her nightingale's warble is as plaintive as the flat
plains, pure as the untainted air, as big as the endless horizon, as wild
and free as the wind. She'll make you dance, she'll make you listen, and
most of all she'll make you glad that there are a few folks left on the
planet who make music for the pure joy of it all.î
Kimmie performs in an acoustic trio backing herself on rhythm guitar and
featuring husband, Joe Gracey, on bass and son, Gabe, on lead guitar. Her
writing, vocal and performance skills are outstanding and not to be missed.
We are thrilled to have Kimmie as the inaugural performer for our new
concert series. Come early and see the new house. Weíll be hanging out,
drinking beer and chewing the fat and yíall are welcome anytime after, oh,
say about 5 oíclock. OK, weíll see you then.

Why Another Series?
Why not? Can you ever have too much live folk music? Honestly, we have
missed hosting shows in our home since we sold the old house and built the
new one out here in Bulverde.
We have been in the house (it is cool!) since mid-April and have been
waiting since last Fall to make sure that Urban Campfires was solid in the
new location and under the new leaders.
It is not our intention to compete with UC but to complement them. It is our
intention to bring more live folk music to San Antonio and the surrounding
Hill Country. We want everyone to continue to support Urban Campfires, as
will we. We plan to book our shows on alternate weekends as much as
possible.
OK, thatís enough disclaimer. Come see the new house and help us kick off
the new series. Bring us some new friends, too.

Hill Country House Concerts is an acoustic house concert series featuring
the finest singer songwriters from around the country performing in an
intimate living room setting. Starting at 7:30 p.m., and always nonsmoking,
Hill Country House Concerts is a wonderful way to enjoy live music without
some of the hassles and expenses of going to a club. Between two sets of
music, we enjoy a potluck dinner with the coffee, iced tea, plates, etc
provided. You are also welcome to bring your own beverages. After the
concerts, guests will often pick and sing in campfire fashion so bring your
guitars and share a song. The shows are $8 per person with all the money
going to the performer. Most performers will also have CDs and tapes
available for purchase and autographs. Reservations are requested.
Bring a dish for the potluck and join us for a wonderful evening of great
entertainment.

Make your plans now for Bill and Bonnie Hearne on July 25, Vance Gilbert on
Friday, August 21, and Small Potatoes on September 27.
Thanks for supporting live music

How to Get Here
miles then turn left on Brand Rd. Go 1/2 mile on Brand then turn right on
Shepherds Ranch Rd. Go 1.5 miles on Shepherds Ranch then turn left on Kuntz
Point. Kuntz Point will end in a cul-de-sac at which point our driveway will
be on the left. It is a single story, stucco and rock, with a 3-car garage.
There are only two other houses on Kuntz Point and they are both on the
right so it is hard to get confused. Look for the Hill Country House Concert
Banner. With any luck, we will have a map on the web page soon!
