just writing in from zagreb, croatia, where a group of about 50-60 folk fans
have formed a club and booked mark dann and self for two nights.....we are
their second concert, first was kate mcdonnell, but already i can see they are
real fans, have lots of cds and know a lot of the music, and virtually
everyone speaks english pretty well.....bill staines is on the cd player in
the next room, the club will be up and running full time as soon as they fill
out the voluminous government permits required......they have already sold out
an order of my cds, about 50 they say........several of the local fans have
copies of my first lp no commercial traffic, which they worked hard to
find.......so, in case there's too many people who think the US only exports
bombers and burgers, it's worth remembering that there is a small but growing
portion of the world that knows us by our music.....as mark says, a recording
is like a message in a bottle, you never know who's going to end up treasuring
it.....
all the best,
rod macdonald
[Alan sez: I was in Zagreb in 1988, even then I thought that they could use
a little more live music. I'd love to do what we could to spread things a
bit more evenly around the globe. Seems like the Internet is a way to raise
that consciousness. If you know of any music fans overseas. Why not tell
them about the folk_music list. Thanks!]
