> My favorite contemporary cover of "The Water Is Wide" is by Steve
>Goodman on one of his first 2 Red Pajamas albums--I >think< it was ARTISTIC
>HAIR.
Yes, it is on Artistic Hair. And it is beautiful. Steve also did a wonderful
version of Jock O' Hazeldean which was on a Tribute show that WFMT in
Chicago did just after he died.
BTW, Red Pajamas is re-releasing some of Steve's early recordings. I think
someone on the Steve Goodman list said that Jessie's Jig is coming out soon.
My son and I (amateurs both) are going out on a limb and doing a set of
Steve's songs at the NW Folklife Festival on Memorial Day. I hope to turn
more people on to this man's wonderful music. Check out relatively recent CD
release of _The Easter Tapes_ and _No Big Surprise_ for some good old
material and some previously unreleased live material.
