As much as people enjoy
listening to folk and acoustic music, there's the business aspect of it, too:
it's some peoples' hobby, and others' full-time job.
This section of "folkmusic.org" brings together resources that can help someone make a (better) living performing folk and acoustic music, and promote themselves to the folk music community. A big time pop star has an agent, a manager, a publicist, and a road manager. They employ truck drivers, road crew, merchandizers, and a bevy of other support personnel. On the way up though, many musicians wear all or most of these hats themselves. Alan Rowoth has a bunch of tutorials on his personal web site that will help you get bookings, sound good, look good, travel cheaply, and develop an inexpensive presence on the internet where you can sell CDs and communicate with your fans. http://www.folkmusic.org/ Last Modified: Tuesday 14 Mar 2000 |
