The notion of
"virtual communities" isn't lost on the folk and acoustic music
communities: the Internet provides a very powerful mechanism for people with
similar interests to gather and discuss them, regardless of geography.
We've gathered online resources in this section of "folkmusic.org"
that fall into three basic categories: "mailing lists", which bring
information and discussion on topics right to your e-mail folder,
"newsgroups", which allow ongoing discussions of many topics in a
bulletin-board fashion, and the "World Wide Web", sites which offer
news and information through a Web interface. (Like this one.)
There's one more resource here, and it's worth a separate mention: our
Internet Directory. It's an online address book of clubs, performers,
and organizations, both those with an online presence and those without,
with contact information and the ability to search through it almost any way
you'd imagine.
